Autumn is a season of transition. The air turns crisp, daylight shortens, and nature reminds us that change is not only inevitable - it’s natural. Just as the trees shed their leaves, we too can use this time to release what no longer serves us and ground ourselves for the months ahead.

For many of us, autumn can feel unsettling: routines shift after summer, energy dips, and the looming darker months bring a sense of heaviness. But with mindful practices like yoga, mindfulness and yoga therapy, we can embrace this seasonal change with more balance, clarity, and calm.

Why Autumn Can Feel Unsettling

Autumn is a time of letting go, but that’s not always easy. We might notice:

  • Fatigue setting in after the busyness of summer.
  • More stress around schedules (school runs, work demands, early evenings).
  • Emotional shifts as we adjust to less daylight.

These changes can leave us feeling ungrounded. That’s where yoga therapy comes in.

Yoga Therapy for Grounding

Yoga therapy goes beyond a general class — it’s tailored to your specific needs. In autumn, grounding practices can help with:

  • Regulating energy levels (restoring when you feel drained, calming when overstimulated).
  • Managing stress and anxiety as life speeds up again.
  • Supporting emotional resilience through breath, movement, and stillness.

A yoga therapy session might include restorative postures, calming breathwork, or simple rituals you can weave into your daily routine.

Simple Grounding Practices to Try at Home

If you’re feeling unsettled this season, here are a few simple ways to bring balance:

  1. Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani)
A deeply calming posture that eases stress and encourages circulation. Stay for 5–10 minutes, breathing slowly.
  2. Box Breathing (4-4-4-4)
Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. Repeat 5 rounds. A powerful practice for nervous system balance.
  3. Gratitude Journaling
Take a few minutes each evening to write down 3 things you’re grateful for. This helps shift focus from loss to abundance.

Coaching Support During Change

Autumn is also a symbolic time of letting go. Wellbeing coaching can complement yoga therapy by helping you explore:

  • What are you ready to release?
  • What would you like to nurture in the months ahead?
  • How can you create routines that support your wellbeing through darker days?

Together, coaching and yoga therapy provide a holistic way to support your body, mind, and spirit through this seasonal shift.
