Onsite Adaptive Chair Yoga

Onsite Adaptive Chair Yoga is a gentle, supported yoga session delivered directly at your care home or assisted living facility. It adapts traditional yoga postures for seated positions (using chairs, the wall, and props) - so residents don’t have to get down onto mats or worry about getting back up.

This is yoga brought into your residents home. Its safe, accessible, community-oriented movement and designed especially for seniors, people with limited mobility, chronic conditions, or recovering from illness or injury.

Why Offer Adaptive Chair Yoga in Your Care Home?

  • Improves mobility & flexibility - gentle stretching helps maintain joint range of motion
  • Supports balance & stability - contributes to fall prevention
  • Boosts circulation & energy - encourages gentle movement and fresh blood flow
  • Enhances mental wellbeing - calming, mindful breathing supports stress reduction and mood
  • Inclusive & safe - every pose is adapted individually so participants feel secure and supported
  • Builds community & engagement - shared sessions give residents something to look forward to

Many residents may feel discouraged if they believe “yoga isn’t for me”  - bringing adaptive chair yoga onsite breaks down that barrier, making movement possible and welcoming, right in their familiar environment.

How It Works  - What to Expect

  • Set-up & space -  I require a room or lounge with enough space for chairs (one per participant), a wall or stable surface, and optionally props (bolsters, blocks, straps).
  • Duration & frequency - Typical sessions last 45 - 60 minutes. They can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or as a short series, depending on your residents’ interest and needs.
  • Class structure - It varies but each session will include a warm-up, seated stretches & gentle movement, balance or standing support (if suitable) and relaxation / breathwork / guided rest.
  • Adaptation for individuals - I adapt poses on-the-spot for each participant’s capabilities - modifications for physical limitations, joint concerns, or medical conditions.
  • Safety & support - Participants are monitored continuously; no pose is mandatory. Emphasis is always on comfort, ease, and stability.

Why Choose Me?

I have taught yoga since 2016 and my mission is to make yoga accessible for every body!  I hold a 600-hour Yoga Therapy Diploma (2024), a 500-hour Yoga Teacher Diploma (2018) and an Adaptive Chair Yoga Certificate from Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga .  I live with axial spondylarthritis and chronic pain, which informs my deep commitment to making yoga accessible to those with physical constraints.  I am patient, empathetic, and adept at adapting sessions for varying needs, always prioritising safety, dignity, and positive experience. All my classes are trauma informed and I have lived experience of dementia - my mother has Alzheimer's and my father has early cognitive decline. Testimonials

Peter

The class is a bit of a social occasion with many turning up on a weekly basis, and is taught in a moderately gentle manner allowing each person to stretch as much as they are able. I know that over time I have been able to do more and find the experience useful both for physical and mental health.
