Preparing for Your First Yoga Therapy Session

Everything you need to feel comfortable, informed, and supported

Welcome — and thank you for booking a private yoga therapy session. Whether you're working with pain, fatigue, stiffness, stress, or a specific diagnosis, yoga therapy is a personalised and accessible approach to help you reconnect with your body, your breath, and your sense of wellbeing. This guide will help you feel calm, confident, and ready ahead of your first session.

🌿 What Is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is a highly personalised, one-to-one approach that draws on the tools of yoga — including breathwork, mindful movement, and relaxation techniques — to support your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
It is evidence-informed, trauma-sensitive, and guided by your individual needs, challenges, and goals.

Sessions may be beneficial for:

  1. Chronic pain, fatigue, or inflammation
  2. Joint and mobility concerns
  3. Stress, anxiety, sleep disturbance
  4. Recovery after illness or injury
  5. Creating a more easeful relationship with your body

No yoga experience or flexibility is needed. We begin exactly where you are.

🧾 Before Your Session: What You’ll Need to Complete

To ensure our work together is safe, effective, and tailored to you, you’ll need to complete three online forms before your first session:

Client Agreement – outlining how we’ll work together
General Health Intake Form – to understand your medical history and current health
Pain Assessment Form – where relevant, to better understand any discomfort you’re experiencing

🕐 Please complete all forms at least 24 hours before your session so I can prepare your session with care.

You’ll receive the links via email after booking.

💳 Payment & Invoicing

After booking, you’ll receive an invoice for your first session.

  1. Payment is kindly requested within 3 days of receipt, or at the very latest, by the day of your session
  2. Payment methods will be clearly listed in the invoice (e.g. bank transfer, Stripe, PayPal)

If you have any concerns about payment or timing, please don’t hesitate to reach out — we’ll find a solution that works for you.

🧘 What to Expect in Your First Session

Your first yoga therapy session will last 75 minutes, and includes:

  1. Time to review your forms together, understand your goals, and talk about how you’re feeling right now
  2. A personalised yoga therapy practice, which may include breath awareness, gentle movement, supported rest, or guided relaxation — depending on your focus areas

Everything is led at a pace that suits you. This is a collaborative and supportive space — you’re always in control of what you do or don’t do.

🧺 What to Wear & Bring

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in (e.g. soft trousers, leggings, loose top). Layers are helpful in case your temperature changes during relaxation.

👉 If we’re working in person:

You don’t need to bring anything — I will provide all props and equipment.
If you prefer to bring your own mat, blanket, or bolster, you're very welcome to.

👉 If we’re working online:

Try to have access to the following:

  1. A yoga mat or soft carpeted area
  2. A firm chair without arms (for seated movement or support)
  3. A cushion or blanket
  4. Space around you to stretch or recline comfortably
  5. A glass of water nearby

Choose a quiet, private area where you won’t be disturbed, and place your device somewhere I can see most of your body (don’t worry — we’ll work with what’s possible, so no need for perfection).

🫶 Accessibility & Comfort

Yoga therapy is for every body — you don’t need to be strong, flexible, or experienced.

If you:

  1. Live with pain, fatigue or mobility challenges
  2. Prefer to work seated or lying down
  3. Use mobility aids
  4. Experience anxiety or discomfort in your body

— please let me know. Sessions can be fully adapted so you feel supported, respected, and at ease.
