Yoga Nidra

Classes Details Main Image

Yoga Nidra is a guided practice of deep rest. You’ll be lying down, fully supported and comfortable, as you are gently led through a series of simple awareness techniques.

Each session begins with a short period of gentle movement or stretching to help release tension and allow the body to arrive. You’ll then be guided to create your own comfortable “nest” using blankets, bolsters and cushions, so you can fully relax and feel supported throughout.

From here, we move into the Yoga Nidra itself. You’ll be guided through breath awareness and a slow rotation of attention through the body, helping the mind to settle and the body to soften. As the practice deepens, there may be gentle exploration of sensation, subtle awareness, and imagery or visualisation to support a sense of balance and restoration. The session then gradually brings you back, with time to reorient before sitting up.

There is nothing to perform and nowhere to get to. Instead, the practice invites you to settle, layer by layer, into a quieter state where the body can rest deeply and the nervous system can begin to reset.

We close the session with a warm drink and light refreshments, giving you time to ground before heading back out into the world.

No experience is needed. You are welcome exactly as you are.

Benefits

Regular practice can support better sleep, reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm, and ease both physical and mental fatigue.

Many people also notice improved concentration and a greater sense of clarity, particularly during busy or demanding periods.

It can help regulate the nervous system, support recovery from periods of burnout or illness, and create space for the body’s natural healing processes.

Some people find it gently improves mood, reduces muscular tension, and offers a sense of emotional steadiness.

Suitability

Yoga Nidra is suitable for almost everyone. It can be especially helpful if you are feeling tired, overstretched, or finding it difficult to switch off. It is also a supportive option if you are recovering from illness or injury, or if more active styles of yoga do not feel accessible right now. No previous experience is needed, and everything can be adapted so that you are comfortable throughout.

At times, however, being still or lying quietly can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming. If you are experiencing acute trauma, severe anxiety, or certain mental health conditions, a group session may not feel like the right place to begin.

In these situations, a 1:1 Yoga Nidra session can offer a more supportive starting point. The practice can be tailored to you, with adjustments to positioning, pacing and guidance so that you feel safe throughout, and space to build gradually in a way that responds to how you are arriving on the day. You are always welcome to get in touch to talk this through.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

Answer

Whatever you feel the most comfortable in. Wear clothing that is comfortable to move and stretch in. Materials that breathe and wick away moisture are the most comfortable. Shoes and socks are not worn in class. If you feel uncomfortable without socks then we recommend yoga toe socks which allow you to grip and move your toes properly.

Answers

Yes please. We don't have storage facilities. If you don't have a mat for your first session you could use a folded towel. Once you are committed to regular yoga it would be wise to purchase your own mat - Vicky can help you source one.

Answers

Always make sure that Vicky is aware, before the class, of any injuries or issues so that she can make accommodations in the class. It is important to let Vicky know of any changes since the initial medical forms were completed. Unfortunately the schedules yoga classes are not appropriate during pregnancy.
